“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription.” - Val Saintsbury
From holding the newborn that takes its first breath to gently closing the eyes of a dying man, nurses are there to witness the beginning and end of our lives. Even today, amidst the raging pandemic, it is the nurses and healthcare workers battling the frontlines every day to keep our communities safe.
According to the latest reports from Statista, there are approximately 669,6000+/- nurses in employment in the United Kingdom in 2020. Nurses, Midwives and Healthcare Assistants are the heart of the healthcare industry and they have been tirelessly working to ensure patients are well cared for.
On this occasion of International Day of the Nurse, which is celebrated on May 12 every year, we need to acknowledge, honor and cheer on our nurses for their compassion and courage. Announced recently by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the theme for International Nurses Day 2021 is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead- A Vision for future healthcare.”
The pandemic had revealed many flaws in many of the world's health systems, as well as the overwhelming pressures that nurses face daily, and highlighted their tremendous dedication and bravery. This year of the Nurse and Midwife, we need to ensure the safety and health of nurses and all healthcare workers so that they can provide a better quality of care across the healthcare systems. In fact, the time for supporting and investing further in our healthcare systems is long overdue.
Every healthcare organization needs to understand that nurses can improve patient care and outcomes and, subsequently, an organization's bottom line. But with the traditional nurse model, teams are left clueless when their members call in sick or can't cover open shifts. Fortunately, advances in healthcare technology are allowing nurses to optimize their workforce, increase patient outcomes and interactions, and achieve a better work-life balance. To achieve these objectives, healthcare organizations must concentrate on technology implementations that protect bedside teams from exposure while also relieving fatigue and burnout by reducing administrative workload.
To provide relief for nursing workers and assist organizations in navigating the pandemic and beyond, it is critical to use workforce management solutions in smart, scalable ways. Thoughtful implementation of innovative technology like JMS One® will help overcome staffing shortages, maximize the availability of expert doctors, and boost efficiencies, both of which can improve patient and caregiver interactions. Moreover, costs can be managed, and resources can be diverted to where they are most required with increased operating efficiencies.
So let us help our nurses and healthcare workers to do a better, safer job by providing them with the best they deserve. Shall we?
On International Nurses Day, we would like to take a moment to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the nurses around the world. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do every day. We are really grateful to you.
