What a fantastic day it was at the Hampshire Care Association event at the voco Hotel! The atmosphere was buzzing with energy, full of passionate care professionals, managers, and providers all working toward the same goal, delivering the best possible care while juggling the ever-growing list of responsibilities that come with running a care service.

At JMS One, we had some great conversations with care home managers and owners who were refreshingly open about the challenges they face every day. From the moment the doors opened, it was clear that three themes kept coming up again and again, staffing pressures, compliance headaches, and time management.

Many managers talked about how much time they lose every week on rotas, timesheets, and paperwork, trying to keep on top of changes, holidays, sickness, and agency shifts. One manager told us she spends nearly a full working day every week just adjusting rotas, a figure that sounded all too familiar across the room. Others mentioned the frustration of managing compliance across multiple spreadsheets and folders, from training records and appraisals to DBS checks, right-to-work documents, and policies.

Another big talking point was CQC compliance. Many leaders said they constantly worry about whether their systems are inspection-ready, not because they aren’t compliant, but because their processes are scattered across so many different tools. That’s where the real conversation began.

But beyond the software talk, what really stood out was the sense of community. Events like this remind us why the care sector is so special, people genuinely care about doing things better, sharing ideas, and supporting each other.
